Screencasting Examples:

CamStudio:

Easy to use software, it needs to be downloaded though. The software allows your to record a full or partial screen. The only problem is that it only records in avi and that would not work on wiki. What I did was upload it onto YouTube, which makes it easy to embed onto wiki. The screencast is made for parents when helping with homework. It gives them an idea on how their child is learning to solve math problems. It can also be a resource for students.

Screenjelly:

Super easy! No need to download anything and it is saved to your membership for future use. My computer didn't like it very well (kept popping up with warnings) but it worked eventually. The software allows you to share it multiple ways along with embedding it onto blogs or wikis. The only problem is that Screenjelly only allows your to record 3 minutes of screen play. The screencast I made is for higher level students who may be in a biology class. It explains what a skinner box is and how it is used to condition(train) rats. It also leads into a project they will be doing. The second part are examples (from YouTube) of what a rat could learn in a skinner box.

BB Flashback Express

Only for Window users, this program is really easy. You do need to download software. The software allows your to record your screen with 3 options: whole screen, section of screen, or the program you are using. For example I did mine using Internet Explorer so I was able just to click on the window and it only recorded that. I don't believe there is a recording limit. My screencast was over 6 minutes long. The video can be exported to SWF and FLV. It can also automatically upload to your YouTube.com account, which is what I did. I made this video for my students who would be publishing an online story using storybird. I demonstrate how to get to storybird through the classroom wiki page and then how to create and publish a story.

Jing

Jing is extremely easy to use. You have to download the software. The software allows you to capture only the part of the screen you want to record. What I like about this recording software is that it allows you to pause then record again and continue to work. The recordings go automatically (when saved) to your screencast account online. It can then be embedded onto the wiki or shared through an html. For the screencast I recorded, I recorded the basics to using Terripin Logo. This would benefit my students who would be learning how to use Logo. It can be used as an introduction video or a review when they need help. The recording I did is fairly wide, when I tried to shrink the size of the video, it made the writing on the screen difficult to read. When using Jing, keep in mind that all computer screens are not the same size (width).
